Mexitar (20 tablets)
Mexitar is prescribed to dogs and cats as the monotherapy or in the complex therapy for the treatment and preventive care in the following cases:
- acute and chronic cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary insufficiency of various etiology;
- intoxications caused by poisoning with various substances that affect the nervous and hepatobiliary systems;
- the prevention of anesthesia and post-narcosis complications;
- encephalopathies of various nature;
- traumatic brain injuries, exogenous organic diseases of the brain, and acute disorders of cerebral circulation;
- asthenic conditions that can occur in depleted, weakened, elderly animals and those exposed to stress factors and increased physical exertion;
- taurine deficiency in animals
Mexitar contains in 1 tablet as active ingredients: ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate 100 mg, taurine 125 mg, and excipients: corn starch, calcium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, lactose.
The drug is made in a form of a round-shaped white tablet.
Ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate is an inhibitor of free radical processes, a membrane protector, it has antihypoxic, antioxidant, detoxifying, stress-protective and cardioprotective effects. It also increases the organism's resistance to the effects of damaging factors, to oxygen-dependent pathological conditions (shock, hypoxia, ischemia, intoxication and disorders of cerebral circulation). The mechanism of its effect consists in the ability to enhance the compensatory activation of aerobic glycolysis and reduce the degree of inhibition of oxidative processes in the Krebs cycle under hypoxia, to activate the energy-synthesizing function of mitochondria, while increasing the content of ATP and creatine phosphate. It improves microcirculation and rheological properties of blood, stabilizes the membrane structures of platelets and erythrocytes during hemolysis, has a hypolipidemic effect, reducing the total cholesterol content. Eliminates neurological and neurotoxic manifestations of acute intoxication caused by poisoning with substances affecting the nervous system. The stress-protective effect is manifested in the normalization of post-stress behavior, somatovegetative disorders, restoration of sleep-wake cycles, reduction of dystrophic and morphological changes in various structures of the brain. Improves the functional state of the ischemic myocardium, increasing the collateral blood supply to the ischemic area, and contributing to the preservation of the integrity of cardiomyocytes and maintaining their functional activity.
Taurine is a natural product of the metabolism of sulfur-containing amino acids: cysteine, cysteamine, methionine. It has osmoregulatory and membrane-protective properties, has a positive effect on the phospholipid composition of cell membranes, normalizes the exchange of calcium and potassium ions in cells. Improves metabolic processes in the heart, liver and other organs and tissues. In chronic diffuse liver diseases, it increases blood flow, reduces the severity of cytolysis and significantly reduces the concentration of triglycerides. In case of cardiovascular insufficiency, it helps to reduce congestion in the small and large circulatory circles, as a result of which intracardiac diastolic pressure decreases, myocardial contractility increases. It moderately reduces blood pressure in hypertension. It has an antistress effect; it also reduces side effects that occur during an overdose of cardiac glycosides and the hepatotoxicity of drugs; increases the endurance of the body during heavy physical exertion. With prolonged use (about 6 months), it improves the microcirculatory blood flow of the eye in animals.
After taking the drug inside, ethylmethylhydroxypyridine succinate is rapidly absorbed and distributed in organs and tissues. It is metabolized in the liver by glucuronconjugation. Taurine is also rapidly absorbed into the systemic circulation, is completely excreted from the body after a day.
The drug Mexitar is used for dogs and cats, after feeding, in a dose of 1 tablet per 10 kg of animal weight.
The dose and duration of use of the drug depend on the physiological state of the animal, the nature and severity of the disease.
In the treatment of cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary insufficiency and intoxication, the drug Mexitar is used 2-3 times a day for 10-14 days, then –once a day for 10-14 days.
In order to prevent anesthesia and post-anesthesia complications, the drug is used twice a day 4-5 days before surgery and for 4-5 days after it.
With encephalopathies of various genesis, traumatic brain injuries, exogenous organic diseases of the brain and acute disorders of cerebral circulation, the drug is used twice a day for 1-3 months.
In asthenic conditions that can occur in emaciated, weakened, elderly and animals exposed to stressors and increased physical exertion, the drug is used once a day for a month. If necessary, the course of taking the drug is repeated at intervals of 3-4 months.
In case of taurine deficiency deficiency in animals, the drug is used twice a day for 3-6 months.
The specifics of the drug's action during its first use and cancellation have not been established.
Violations of the doses and course of use of the drug should be avoided, as this may lead to a decrease in its effectiveness. In case of skipping one or more doses of the drug, its use must be resumed in the prescribed dose and application scheme.
Side effects and complications in animals when using the drug in accordance with this instruction, as a rule, are not observed. Individual adverse reactions of a dyspeptic nature or allergic reactions may occur. In these cases, the drug should be discontinued and, if necessary, symptomatic therapy should be performed on the animal.
When used in recommended doses, it is well tolerated by dogs and cats of different breeds and ages. Contraindications to the use of the drug are individual hypersensitivity of the animal to its components (including in the anamnesis), as well as acute renal and liver dysfunction.
For females during pregnancy and feeding of offspring, as well as puppies and kittens up to 2 months of age, the drug Mexitar is used with caution under the supervision of a veterinarian.
With an overdose of the drug Mexitar, drowsiness may develop. If symptoms of overdose appear, the drug should be temporarily discontinued.
There is no information about the incompatibility of the drug Mexitar with other drugs of pathogenetic and symptomatic therapy. The drug is not recommended to be used simultaneously with anxiolytics and anticonvulsants due to their increased action.
The drug Mexitar is not intended for use by food-producing animals.
