Chlorhexidine bigluconate, which is part of the drug, is a dichloride-containing derivative of biguanide. It has antiseptic (antimicrobial, fungicidal and vurulicidal) action, is active against gram-negative and gram-positive aerobic and anaerobic bacteria (including Klebsiella spp., Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus spp., (including Staphylococcus aureus MRSA), Streptococcus spp., Enterococcus spp., Micrococcus spp., Escherichia coli, Proteus spp., Bacillus spp., Chorynebacterium pyogenes, Campylobacter fetus, Enterobacter spp., Chlamydia spp., Ureaplasma spp., Pseudomonas spp., Haemophilus influenzae, Acinrtobacter). As well as protozoa (Trichomonas foetus), fungi of the genera Microsporum, Trichophyton, Epidermophyton and yeast-like fungi of the genera Candida and Malassezia, lipophilic viruses (influenza, rotaviruses, enteroviruses).
The mechanism of action of chlorhexidine consists in interaction with phosphate groups on the surface of the microbial cell, while lipophilic groups contribute to the disaggregation of the lipoprotein membrane of bacteria, thereby disturbing the osmotic balance of bacterial cells, the release of potassium and phosphorus from them, which leads to the death of the microorganism. The effectiveness of chlorhexidine in the presence of blood and pus, various secretions and organic substances has been clinically proven. When applied to the skin and coat of an animal, the drug has a short-term contact effect against microorganisms in the places of their localization. When applied externally, the drug is practically not absorbed through the skin and does not have a systemic effect.
According to the degree of exposure to the organism, Chlorhexidine shampoo with antibacterial effect for animals refers to low-risk substances, in recommended doses, it does not have a locally irritating and sensitizing effect.
Moisten the animal’s coat with warm water, apply the shampoo evenly over the entire surface of the body with massaging movements, avoiding contact with the mucous membranes.
After 3-5 minutes, rinse the shampoo with warm water, dry and comb the coat. Depending on the pathology, the treatment of the animal must be repeated every 2-5 days for at least 3-4 weeks to achieve the optimal therapeutic effect. 1-2 treatments of the animal per month are sufficient to prevent skin diseases of various etiologies.
