PHARMACHOLOGIC EFFECT

Fipronil, which is part of the drug Sanacard shampoo, has a contact antiparasitic effect on the sexually mature phases of the development of fleas (Ctenocephalides canis, Ctenocephalides felis), lice (Linognathus setosus), Trichodectidae (Trichodectes canis, Felicola subrostratus), on all phases of the development of ixod mites (Rhipicephalus sanguineus, Dermacentor variabilis, Amblyomma americanum, Ixodes holocyclus, Ixodes scapularis, Ixodes ricinus, Haemaphysalis flava, Haemaphysalis campanulata, Haemaphysalis leachi), on the preimaginal and imaginal phases of sarcoptoid development (Sarcoptes spp., Psoroptes spp., Notoedres cati, Otodectes cynotis) ticks, mosquitoes (Aedes aegupti), parasitic in dogs and cats.

Fipronil is an insectoacaricide of the phenylpyrazole group, its mechanism of action consists in blocking GABA-dependent ectoparasite receptors, disrupting the transmission of nerve impulses, which leads to paralysis and death of insects and ticks.

D-panthenol, which is part of the drug, soothes and restores the structure of the skin in case of violation of its integrity (combs, wounds from ectoparasite bites, etc.), protecting against irritation and inflammation. Auxiliary components of the drug Sanacard shampoo have washing and moisturizing properties, noticeably improve the appearance of the coat, prevent tangling of wool and facilitate its combing.

After applying the drug to the skin, fipronil is gradually distributed over the entire surface of the body for 24 hours and, practically without being absorbed into the systemic bloodstream, accumulates in the epidermis, hair follicles and sebaceous glands, has a contact effect, is metabolized with the formation of derivatives active against ectoparasites (mainly sulfones).

A single treatment of the animal with the drug Sanacard shampoo ensures the destruction of fleas and ticks within 24-48 hours.

According to the degree of exposure to the organism, Sanacard shampoo refers to low-risk substances, in recommended doses, it does not have a locally irritating and sensitizing effect. The drug is toxic to rabbits, bees, as well as fish and other aquatic organisms.

The Sanacard shampoo is prescribed for dogs and cats as the treatment and preventive care in the following cases:

- acarosis (lesions of hard ticks; in the complex therapy of sarcoptic mange, notoedrosis, and сheyletiellosis);

- entomosis (fleas, lice, and Trichodectidae).

Sanacard is also used in the complex therapy of allergic dermatitis caused by ectoparasites.

The Sanacard shampoo is prescribed to animals from 8 weeks of age.

One treatment is enough to eliminate hard ticks, fleas, lice, and Trichodectidae; to prevent re-infestation, the treatment is performed every 5-7 days, but not more than 5 times per month.

For therapeutic purposes in sarcoptic mange and сheyletiellosis in dogs, notoedrosis in cats, the Sanacard shampoo is used 5-7 times with an interval of 10 days; for prevention of possible invasion – 2 times with an interval of 14 days.

Shampoo is diluted with water in a ratio of 1:2 and surfaces, clothes or animal bedding are treated with a consumption rate of 10 ml / m2. After 10-15 minutes, the drug is washed off the surfaces with water, the bedding and clothes are washed.

The specifics of the drug's action during its first use and cancellation have not been established.
